What to Do Straight Away
A little first aid now protects the tooth and makes waiting for your appointment easier.
Ways to Repair a Broken Tooth
Which repair suits depends on how much of the tooth is missing and whether the nerve is exposed. We'll point it out on the X-ray and explain the choices.
A Chip Off a Front Tooth
Composite in a matching shade is sculpted onto the tooth by hand, usually without drilling or an injection: composite bonding, £395 per tooth, finished in a single visit.
A Broken Corner or Lost Filling
A white filling, from £105 at the front or £118 at the back. If a large part of the tooth has gone, a complete build-up (£350).
A Cracked Back Tooth
Cracks like to spread. A ceramic onlay (£750) or a crown (from £675) encases the tooth and binds it together, with a temporary to guard it while the lab makes the final one.
An Exposed Nerve
A pink spot in the fracture, or throbbing that starts without prompting, tells us the nerve is affected. Root canal treatment (from £450) calms it, and a crown normally follows.
A Fracture Beneath the Gum
Not every tooth can be saved. When it can't, we remove it as gently as possible and discuss what will fill the space, whether a denture, a bridge or an implant.
Broken Bonding, Veneers or Crowns
We mend or replace the restoration and work out why it failed. If grinding is to blame, a night guard keeps the new work safe.

Must Every Chip Be Treated?
No. A minor nick in the enamel that causes no pain, has no sharp edge and doesn't trouble you can be polished smooth and kept an eye on at your next routine examination.
You should have it checked when the chip has reached the dentine (the yellowish layer below the enamel), when it's sensitive, or when it's on a back tooth that bears your bite, because those are the ones that grow. A brief examination and an X-ray will tell us which sort yours is.
What It Costs
The emergency visit is a single fee. Before any permanent repair begins you'll have its price in writing, so nothing comes as a shock. Fees checked October 2026. 1
