Family Dentistry for Dundee
Dundee's Family Dentist, Down at the Ferry
Families come to us from right across Dundee, from the West End and the Ninewells side of the city to Douglas, Whitfield and Craigiebank, ten minutes along the Arbroath Road. Both children and adults join the NHS list here without waiting, you can be seen privately if you'd prefer, and weekday slots are kept back for toothache and knocks.NHS places for children with no wait. Parents can join on the NHS as well, or go private. Toothache and knocks seen on weekdays.
Signing the Children Up
One message does it. Siblings are seen one after the other, so the family makes a single journey from Dundee instead of several.
Let Us Know Who's Coming
Request a call back and choose the NHS option, or WhatsApp us each child's name and date of birth, and we'll phone to agree a time.
A First Visit That's Mainly Talking
Little ones tend to sit on mum or dad's knee while we count their teeth. Older children get a go in the chair and a look in the mirror before we do anything.
Fluoride Varnish and Tips
Through Childsmile, Scotland's programme for children's teeth, we paint on fluoride varnish to toughen young enamel and pass on practical advice about brushing and snacks.
Back When They Need It
How often each child returns depends on their own teeth rather than a set schedule, and we'll tell you what we recommend.
Check-Ups for Mum and Dad
Parents tend to put their own teeth at the bottom of the list. There are two ways in.
Teenagers
Teenagers from Dundee remain NHS patients with us, and pay nothing until they turn 26. We watch wisdom teeth and gums as they develop, and we speak to them, not past them.
If a teenager's bite genuinely needs fixed braces, we'll be straight about it and refer to an orthodontist. For rugby, hockey or Saturday football, a custom-made sports mouthguard costs £190 and sits far more securely than one from a shop.
When It All Goes Wrong
Bikes get fallen off on the Esplanade and teeth crack on a school night. What to do before you ring us.
An Adult Tooth Knocked Out
Pick it up by the crown, not the root, rinse it in milk if it's dirty and try to seat it back in the socket, or keep it in milk. Ring us straight away: speed matters most in the first hour.
A Baby Tooth Knocked Out
Leave it out. Pushing it back can damage the adult tooth forming beneath. Bring your child in so we can take a look.
Toothache
Children's painkillers as directed on the packet, then call us as soon as we open. The appointment is £70, with no charge for plan members.
A Chipped Tooth
Hang on to any fragment you find. Small chips can usually be rebuilt with tooth-coloured composite at that first visit.
A Swollen Face
Phone us that day. Swelling that spreads quickly or affects breathing, swallowing or an eye means A&E, which for Dundee is Ninewells.
Evenings and Weekends
When we're shut, NHS 24 on 111 handles urgent dental advice across Dundee and Angus.
