Bring them along whenever suits. We register children on the NHS without any wait, and under Scottish rules NHS examinations and treatment are free for everyone under 26.
Adults
Adult NHS registrations are open now. Request a call back, select NHS place, and we'll arrange your first NHS examination. If you'd like a private appointment instead, with more time and a broader choice of materials, that's available too.
What the NHS Charges in Scotland
These fees are fixed by the Scottish Government rather than by us, and they're identical at every NHS practice in Scotland. The cost is always made clear before any treatment starts.
| Dental examination | Free at any age |
| Under 26 | Free treatment |
| Pregnant, or had a baby within the last year | Treatment is free |
| On qualifying benefits, or with an HC2 certificate | Treatment is free |
| With an HC3 certificate | Part of the cost covered |
| All other adults | 80% of the NHS fee, up to a maximum of £384 for each course of treatment |
What Counts as a Course of Treatment
A course is all the work your dentist plans following one examination to get your mouth back to health, for instance a couple of fillings, a scale and polish plus an extraction. The cap covers that package as a whole rather than each separate item.
That means an adult paying NHS charges is never asked for more than £384 for one course, no matter how much work it involves. A fresh problem months down the line starts a new course with a cap of its own.
What's Available on the NHS
Anything clinically necessary to get and keep your mouth healthy: fillings, scaling, X-rays, examinations, root treatment, extractions, dentures, bridges and crowns.
Treatment chosen chiefly for appearance isn't covered. That includes composite bonding, whitening, veneers, Invisalign and, with very few exceptions, dental implants. NHS fillings in back teeth are commonly amalgam (silver), with white fillings generally reserved for front teeth.
Choosing between NHS and privateGoing Private: The Honest Picture
For anyone thinking about private care with us, this is what it involves, the upsides and the downsides.
What You Get
More time in each appointment and more options. All fillings are tooth-coloured, and you can choose from a wider range of materials, including ceramic crowns made from a digital scan instead of putty impressions.
What You Pay
A first private examination including X-rays is £70, with treatment charged according to our published fee list. Most treatment costs more than the NHS equivalent, and no cap applies.
Paying Monthly
Our dental plans, at £24.10 or £40.16 a month, cover routine examinations and hygiene visits. They're a good fit for some people and not a saving for everyone, so let us do the sums with you.
Mixing NHS and Private
Lots of patients keep routine care on the NHS and go private for a single item, perhaps an implant, or a crown made in a different material. We'll always be clear about which is which.
Your NHS Place Is Safe
Having one treatment privately doesn't affect your NHS registration. You remain registered for routine care.
When the NHS Makes More Sense
If you're under 26, expecting a baby or on qualifying benefits, your NHS treatment is free, and we'll say so straight away. Children are treated on the NHS here as well.
How Registration Works
Adults and children are booked in without delay, and the private route stays open if you'd rather take it.

Urgent Care and NHS Tayside
NHS Tayside oversees our NHS dental services, as the health board covering Broughty Ferry, Dundee and Angus.
For urgent dental problems when the practice is closed, phone NHS 24 on 111; they can organise an out-of-hours NHS appointment where it can't wait. During opening hours, our same-day emergency appointments are available to everyone, whether registered with us or not.
If money is tight, the NHS Low Income Scheme (form HC1) may entitle you to an HC2 or HC3 certificate. Before treatment goes ahead we'll ask you to confirm any exemption you're claiming.
