Deposits, Fixed Fees and Cancelling
A free consultation at our Brook Street practice needs a £40 deposit, which we repay within 7 days of the appointment. You get each fee in writing before treatment starts, and it stays fixed. To cancel or move a visit, give us 48 hours' notice.

Consultation Deposits
An empty chair during a free consultation is time someone else could have used. The deposit keeps those slots for people who come.
Free consultations for Invisalign, implants, bonding or a smile makeover: a £40 deposit secures your slot
Facial aesthetics: seeing Dr Sharma for a consultation carries a £50 deposit
Repaid within 7 days of your visit, whether you then go ahead or not

Only free consultations carry a deposit. Examinations, hygiene visits and emergency appointments are paid at price-list rates, or come under your dental plan
Fixed Fees, Agreed in Writing
The price should never be a surprise at the end of a visit.

Each course of treatment starts with a written plan: what we advise, the other routes open to you, and a cost for every stage
A "from" price on the list becomes an exact figure for your mouth once your plan is written
Accept the plan and the price is fixed. If an unexpected problem shows up halfway, perhaps a cracked tooth under an old filling, we stop and tell you first; no extra work or cost happens without that conversation
Many people want time to think, so feel free to take the plan home. Nobody asks you to decide in the chair, and there's no deadline
On a dental plan, private treatment is 10% cheaper in most cases, though implants, orthodontics and larger cosmetic cases are excluded
Moving or Cancelling a Visit
It happens. Early warning usually lets us offer the slot to someone with toothache.
A phone call, a WhatsApp to 07984 709110 or a note through the patient portal, 48 hours or more in advance, is all it takes
If you don't attend a free consultation and haven't told us, we keep the deposit
Held up on the Tay Road Bridge, or on a late train into Broughty Ferry? Phone before your time. We'll still see you if there's room, or offer another slot
If we have to rearrange your booking, we'll contact you at the earliest chance with a new time that suits you
Appointment reminders go out by text message, so tell reception whenever your mobile number changes
The Implant Guarantee
The cover, and your side of the bargain, in plain English.
Each implant placed at our Broughty Ferry practice carries a 5-year guarantee for non-smokers who attend hygiene visits every 3 months
We use MegaGen AnyRidge implants, and each case is planned from a CT scan. Single implants are placed through a 3D-printed MegaGen R2 guide, as are full-arch cases on the Premium Guided Zirconia pathway only
Smoking and gum infection are two of the commonest reasons an implant is lost, which is why the guarantee relies on you staying smoke-free and coming to hygiene appointments regularly
Plan B's three-monthly hygiene visit is exactly what the guarantee calls for
You'll find every condition in your consent form, and Dr Sharma explains each one before you sign
NHS Treatment
Children and adults are registered and treated on the NHS, with every dentist at the practice, and private care is there if you'd rather.
NHS dental examinations in Scotland cost nothing. Nor does NHS treatment for anyone under 26, for expectant mothers and those who gave birth in the past 12 months, or for people on certain benefits
If none of those applies, you pay 80% of the NHS cost, capped at £384 for each course of treatment
You don't have to choose one or the other. As an NHS patient you could have a single tooth treated privately, a tooth-coloured filling at the back for instance, and we'll show you both prices first
Adults wanting to register on the NHS can request a call back. Private appointments are open while you wait
NHS dentistry across Dundee and Angus, Broughty Ferry included, is the responsibility of NHS Tayside
Spreading the Cost
A monthly plan covers routine visits; bigger treatment is paid in stages set out in your written plan.
Monthly plans: choose Plan A for £24.10 or Plan B for £40.16 a month, covering examinations and hygiene, and emergency visits too
Urgent Care
Even if you aren't registered here, we can see you for pain.
Registered patients pay £70 for an emergency appointment; if you're not registered it's £70. Dental plan members aren't charged

Out of hours, NHS 24 answers on 111
If swelling affects your breathing, swallowing or eye, bleeding won't stop, or you've taken a heavy blow to the face, call 999 or go to A&E at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee
Records, Privacy and Complaints

A secure link for your medical history form arrives before your first visit
Clinical photographs form part of your notes. Before-and-after pictures are only shared publicly with your written permission, and every result differs from one person to the next

Common Questions
Deposits, no-shows and payment: the usual questions.
Are consultations free?–
Yes: there's no charge for a consultation about Invisalign, composite bonding, veneers, a smile makeover, or dental implants including full-arch treatment. When you book we take a £40 deposit to secure the slot, and we refund it within 7 days of your appointment. If you need to cancel or rearrange, let us know at least 48 hours ahead. The deposit is only kept if you miss the appointment without telling us. A dental examination is a separate thing: a new patient examination, including X-rays, costs £70.
What happens if I can't make my appointment or have to cancel late?+
Let us know as soon as you can; cancelling late still means your consultation deposit is returned. If you need to cancel or rearrange, let us know at least 48 hours ahead. The deposit is only kept if you miss the appointment without telling us. If you're running late, give us a ring and we'll say whether we can still see you. We send reminders by text message, so make sure the mobile number we hold for you is up to date.
Could the fee increase after my treatment has begun?+
No. You receive a written treatment plan with a fixed price before any work starts, and that figure is what you pay. If we find something unexpected along the way, say a tooth that turns out to need more than its X-ray implied, we stop and discuss it with you before going further. No change to the cost is made without your say-so.
Is there a guarantee on your dental implants?+
Yes. Implant treatment at our Broughty Ferry practice includes a 5-year guarantee for non-smokers who attend hygiene visits every 3 months. The conditions attached aren't arbitrary: smoking and inadequate cleaning are the two main reasons implants run into trouble, and routine hygiene appointments pick up problems while they're still small. Before any treatment begins, the precise terms are set down in the consent form you sign, so nothing comes as a surprise later on.
Do you take NHS patients?+
Children and adults are registered and treated on the NHS, with every dentist at the practice, and private care is there if you'd rather. To ask about NHS care, request a call back and say you're enquiring about an NHS place. In Scotland NHS dental treatment is free for everyone under 26, and where NHS care is available here it falls under NHS Tayside. Our NHS dentistry page sets out what's covered.
