New Patients in Broughty Ferry
Joining Ferry Smile Studios
Becoming a patient here starts with a new patient examination, booked online (most people would just call it a check-up). The fee is £70 and includes X-rays, and you will find us at 196 Brook Street, Broughty Ferry. Children go onto the NHS list immediately; there is no waiting.
What Happens at Your First Visit
Your examination is usually with one of our dentists, such as Dr Lisa Respinger, who then becomes the person looking after your routine care.

Medical History
We send a link to your phone before the appointment so you can complete a health form in advance. It covers medicines, allergies and conditions like diabetes, all of which shape how we treat you.
A Conversation, Then the Examination
First we ask what you have noticed yourself: a tender tooth, a chip, bleeding when you brush. Then we check each tooth, the gums, the bite and the soft tissues of the mouth, which is where early signs of mouth cancer are spotted. X-rays reveal decay hidden between the teeth.
A Written Plan to Take Away
Where treatment is needed, you leave with it written down, a price against every item and the order we suggest doing it in. We do not start anything that day unless you ask us to.
Worth Bringing Along
These make your first appointment faster and more productive.
NHS or Private, or a Mixture
Children and adults are registered and treated on the NHS, with every dentist at the practice, and private care is there if you'd rather.
NHS Care
Children are registered without any wait. NHS dental examinations in Scotland are free whatever your age, and all treatment is free if you are under 26. Other adults generally pay 80% of the NHS charge, up to a ceiling of £384 per course of treatment. To join the adult NHS list, request a call back.

Seen without waiting, longer appointments and every material available. All fees are published and confirmed in writing before treatment. Plenty of families mix the two: children on the NHS, parents on a dental plan from £24.10 a month.

Nervous About Coming In?
Staying away from the dentist for years is something we see all the time. Mention it when you book and your first visit can be nothing more than a conversation and a look around, with no treatment until you feel ready. When treatment is needed, IV sedation is available.
Support for anxious patientsBringing the Whole Family
Ask us to book your appointments back to back, so everyone is seen in one visit to Brook Street. Babies can come in as soon as their first tooth appears. It makes sense if you are travelling from Dundee, Carnoustie or over the bridge from Tayport.
